Hello! I'm Katie, a Victoria-based communications specialist, writer, and designer.
I believe in thorough research, good design, and oxford commas. Good stories deserve to be memorable, something that can be done through a combination of innovative layout, quality writing, and a fresh approach.
I've recently relocated to Victoria, BC! Before the move, I worked as the Communications Coordinator at an amazing non-profit organization in Montreal, and I still do freelance design and communications work on the side.
Coordinates all communications for the organization, both big picture and small. Ensures communications are accurate, up-to-date, and brand consistent through a thorough copy editing and layout process. Manages the editing, design, printing and distribution of all external communications materials, including annual reports, web pages, informational brochures and press releases.
Managed the creation and publication of the POP Montreal Festival Program, including over 200 artist bios as well as articles and general event information. Lead a group of over 100 writers and managed all content writing. Enforced a style guide and copy edited all text prior to print. Assigned and edited longer form content for the program, such as interviews and features. Maintained relationships with advertisers and sponsors, and assisted them in the development of content.
Assigned stories and set deadlines to a team of writers for a 7-12 page weekly print section. Personally wrote profiles, reviews and features, focusing both on breaking news and long-form, research-heavy articles. Extensively edited and fact checked all assigned pieces according to The Link style guide and Canadian Press style.
Whether it's a program, a topic, or a communications skill, I'm always ready to learn something new.
